Amalgamation

The Rockland Neighbourhood Association Position on Amalgamation (2015)

As a neighbourhood association, our interests are primarily the needs of our residents, our ability to participate meaningfully in local decisions, and the need for accountability from our government officials. Therefore, any discussion regarding amalgamation must have this mandate as a priority. Amalgamation must not reduce clarity for residents about who does what. Nor can it result in less accessibility to local decision-makers for residents and less responsiveness to local concerns.
Listed as a primary threat in the RNA Strategic Plan for 2014 is the fact that City policies and procedures are not aligned with the Neighbourhood Plan direction. We can be supportive of a change in governance which does not exacerbate this problem.
