Social Committee

SOCIAL:
2016 was an excellent year as it relates to special events that occurred in our Rockland neighborhood. We are striving to encompass a ‘whole of community’ approach to bring people together.

Two main events took place that brought together many in our community. These social gatherings provided us an opportunity to highlight the special uniqueness that is Rockland. First, the 2016 Rockland Neighborhood Garage Sale was another big success. We have seen a continued increase in participation and community involvement with these annual events.

Secondly, your Rockland Neighborhood Association and Craigdarroch Castle co-hosted a family movie night on the south lawn of Craigdarroch Castle that was very well attended. Both these events brought in many visitors from outside our neighborhood, the province, country and even the world. Many visitors expressed delight and envy at seeing that we live in such a vibrant neighborhood.

2016 also saw an increase in neighborhood block parties taking place in Rockland, indicating a strong sense of community. New neighbors to our community are welcomed by our Welcoming Committee with personalized care and attention (see below).

For 2017 RNA Members, planning is well underway for our bi-annual soiree at Government house. Hosted by the Honourable Judith Guichon, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, this is an exciting evening of meeting and making friends in a hosted setting.

We are also looking into ideas for Canada’s 150th birthday celebrations. If you have any ideas, great or small, please let one of the board members know!

In conclusion, your Social Director is excited with what we have accomplished in our collaborative efforts to create a sense of community and for the health and vibrancy of our community. Moving forward, we welcome any and all ideas with regard to the social committee. We also encourage all Rockland residents to register as RNA members for 2017 to help us plan and deliver successful community neighbourhood events.
